Duchy Ford Show - Organised by Duchy Capri & Classic Ford Club, Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st May 2023

Writer: Mark RobertsMark Roberts

Thursday 18th May

Thursday was spent ferrying cars and our temporary homes ready for the start of our show weekend. The weather was glorious and it was looking good for the next few days, which was brilliant after all the hard work. Early evening, Jeremy had to pop back home, so Mark, Adam and Dave made our 1st visit to the Farmers Arms for a well-earned meal and a couple of pints.

Friday 19th May

Members Glen, Mark C, Jack and Nick joined us. While Jeremy and Adam went to put up the signs, I realised that I'd left the trophies at home! So, to save Glen 2 more trips, I grabbed a lift back with him, picked up the trophies and drove Glen’s RS2000 back – happy days! Once back at the campsite, we put up the gazebo and club bunting, then welcomed more campers, amongst them members - Jake and Tegan, Ross and Sam, Andy B and John. To finish the day, it was back to the Farmers Arms.

Saturday 20th May

An early start - 5.20am, it was amazing watching the sunrise - another beautiful day. After a full English, it was time to clean and polish our Cars. By 9.45 we had 28 glorious Fords assembled ready for the start. The car run took us to Wadebridge and then along the B3314 Bodieve Road and on to our first stop Trevathan Farm Shop and restaurant. After the drink stop it was on to Port Isaac, Delabole and our main photo shoot at Davidstow Airfield, we managed to take some great pictures, a stunning place where some of us had never been before. Once back on the road, we headed to the A30 and onto our final stop and dinner break at Jamaica Inn. The service and food were brilliant, with it being a lovely day we all sat outside. Once fed and watered, those who were camping headed back to the campsite while others headed home. Many thanks to Jeremy for organising such a great day. Once back at the campsite, we again welcomed more campers and got ourselves ready for our evening entertainment. With live music from ‘As Weird as Fish’ and ‘DJ Monty Discos’ (Adam), they were both brilliant and a great time was had by all.

Sunday 21st May

Another early start and another amazing sunrise, we were so lucky with the weather! We opened the gates at 6.30am and the first traders started to arrive, by 8.00am the cars started to arrive... and they didn’t stop! At 10.30, we had 190 Fords on site. We had such a wide variety of cars, from Model T’s and Model A’s to the latest Focus RS’s; plus an ultra-rare RS200 and a Capri RS2600 from our own club. This year we were well supported by traders, there were many bargains to be had and plenty to see and do. We would like to thank Mother Iveys, Ray Norman, Kapar Kernow Security and our Sponsors – Vospers, MKM Builders, Symons Construction and That Tint Guy; as well as everyone who helped and turned up to make this show possible. Our chosen charities were Cornwall Blood Bikes and Wadebridge Food Bank and we have donated £750 to each of them.
