Mount Edgecumbe American & Classic Car Show Sunday 4th August 2024

Attending Mount Edgecumbe American & Classic Car Show meant a nice, early start for some of our club members, on the beautifully bright morning of Sunday 4th August. And yes, if you're reading this after the last blog, we did indeed have two different 'teams' of members heading out to different shows this day - we love that the club is growing, and so many shows are being hosted, when it gets to the point that we can attend multiple venues on the same day.

Club members Jenni, Adam, Dave & Bev, Glen, Jerry, Ray and also a non-member in a stunning white Escort RS Turbo, convoyed on up to Mount Edgecumbe, having left Inn For All Seasons just after 7:15am. On the way we picked up club members Matt, Richard and James. The roads were nice and quiet, and it wasn't long before the coast of Torpoint, and views of Plymouth, were upon us. A huge array of cars were already there upon arrival. Club member Jane arrived and joined us a little after we got there. We were placed next to the East Devon & Exeter RS Owners Club, who were very welcoming and had some amazing cars on their stand.

Our club stand all set up before the crowds rushed in!

After parking up the club cars and giving them all a quick polish, breakfast was of course necessary, so we headed on over to AJ's catering wagon, and got some grub - lovely as always. The show didn't officially open until 11am, but there was still plenty of car owners wondering around, and we joined them and had a mooch. The showground is quite spectacular, as you could choose to wonder on down to The Edgecumbe Arms and have a stroll along the short stone beach in front of it, or maybe you'd prefer a walk around to the Orangery Garden Cafe, or even a wonder up to the main house at Mount Edgecumbe itself. The long grass stretch in front of the house was full of trade stands as well as fairground games, and more. It made for a great walk and filled the gap until the show officially opened.

Of course, with it being an American (& Classic) car show, you can understand there was a huge variety of big American cars, and of course, so many Ford Mustangs. There was still a great range of other classics on display too, like this very tastefully modified Mk2 Escort 1.1 L which was on the Clarified Detailing stand. There was some very beautiful 'chrome classics', including this gorgeous Mk3 Zodiac, and an abundance of new Fords too, ranging from the Mondeo, to the newer RS. The XR Owners Club (Cornwall & Devon) had a great range of cars on their stand, some really tidy looking Cosworths, one of which was an award-winner at the end of the day during the award ceremony.

A small portion of the Fords on display.

It had been a long, hot day at Mount Edgecumbe, and due to the fact we wouldn't be leaving the show until 4ish, we decided to stop off somewhere on the way home for a bite to eat. Thankfully Brightside Cafe in Saltash was open so we booked a table, and a few of the club members headed there on our journey back down to Redruth - thank you Brightside for hosting us.

Brightside Cafe's sign made the perfect backdrop for Jane's red Escort!

Overall, it was a fantastic day, nearly a 12/13 hour day for most of us, but it was fantastic. To see the cars on display at Mount Edgecumbe Show, which was in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care, was such a treat and was a fantastic day out, and the club can't wait to attend next year.

Until next time,

Jenni
