Penzance Rotary 'Classics on the Prom' Sunday 7th July 2024

On a surprisingly sunny morning on the 7th July, 4 of our club members met at the Inn For All Seasons, and convoyed on down to Penzance Promenade, led by club member Barrie in his 100E. We arrived nice and early, giving us a chance to do those last-minute tidy ups on our cars, and get the club flags up. Club member Ray in his Sierra RS Cosworth then arrived about 30 minutes later, and our club stand of 5 was officially set up for the day ahead. Whilst we only had 5 club cars in attendance, it was the perfect display of Fords - Barrie's 100E showcasing older Fords, Alan's Anglia appealing to the Harry Potter fans (if you know, you know!), Jenni's Probe drew many a confused glance and 'what on Earth is that', Ray's Cossie of course appealing to the speed demons who adored the engine under the bonnet, and last but certainly not least, Adam's Capri which had a constant stream of envious men, women, and children too, standing by.

The club stand all set up for the day.

Club members enjoyed a lovely breakfast from 'Pickle', a catering van serving delicious toasties and rolls on the prom, and then had a stroll as the front began to fill up. Soon after we had arrived, the MG club also set up stand opposite us on the prom. There were also attendees from Kernow Rovers, and many other individuals too. Admittedly, not many other Fords on the prom, but there was a 1966 Cortina, 2x1961 Popular's, a 1969 Capri, and a 1972 Capri.

One of the few other Fords on the prom.

It really was a great day, getting to meet members of the general public and handing out some of our club flyers. The weather stayed dry and the prom stayed busy well into the afternoon. Club members Adam, Jenni, and Barrie left the prom at around 3pm, but Alan and Ray stayed on much later and ended up being the last on the prom!

Until next time,

Mark
